The Best of Gay Carnival Monday in Rio
Gay Carnival Monday is your last chance to watch the Samba Parade. The line-up of dance parties is fantastic, starting with an afterparty at 8 a.m.! Fabulous themed-blocos are taking over the streets.
You do need some rest, good food, and better eye candy. Starting your day or at least including a dip at the gay beach in Ipanema in your plans is a based choice. Socialize, and find out what the other people are doing.
Blocos and Street Festivities
We have two excellent suggestions for enjoying street festivities. Both are themed blocos with loyal followings and unique soundtracks.
Bloco Exagerado is a tribute to iconic gay pop star Cazuza. The composer and singer left a legacy of unforgettable songs that are translated into a Carnival mood. The gathering at Praça Tirandentes in Centro starts at 8 a.m.
Sargento Pimenta, the Brazilian translation of Sargeant Pepper, is a tribute to – you guessed it! The Beatles. Their songs are revisited and given a new rendition with a Carnival beat. The results are incredible. The concentration at Aterro do Flamengo starts at 10 p.m.
Balls & Off-Carnival Parties
Partywise, Monday is a very happening day. Options start early, at 8 a.m., with the afterparty Guapo Carnaval Freedom at Varandas Vivo Rio. Patrons who participated at Carnaval Zodíaco, which began on Sunday night, may be tempted to stay.
Disclosure DJ Set happens at Museu do Amanhã at Praça Mauá, 1, in Centro. This is a mixed party (gay/straight) with fabulous music if you want to try something new. The location is quite scenic, near the docks. Doors open at 11 p.m.
Guapo Carnaval Forever at Varanda Vivo Rio in Glória starts at 11 p.m. This group brings fresh attractions every night, with an incredible mix of Brazilian and international DJs.
FESTA +18 CYBER SEX happens at The Home on Rua Sacadura Cabral, 135, Centro. Parties at this club are always a good bet – it is the largest gay venue in Rio. They picked a great mix of DJs, and you enjoy the benefits. Doors open at 11 p.m.
Carnival Samba Parade
Monday is your last opportunity to enjoy the Special Group Samba Schools competition at the Sambódromo. The show’s grandeur is unmatched. Carnavalescos go out of their way to create novelties and reinterpret traditional staples.
The floats with impressive details and moving parts are distributed among the wings of people in matching or coordinated costumes to tell you a story. Each samba school has a soul and many followers in Rio and Brazil. Spectators can often tell them apart by the colors, style, special guests, and opening acts.
This Monday, the selection features Mocidade, Portela, Vila Isabel, Mangueira, Paraíso do Tuiutí, and Viradouro. The six best-ranked schools will march on the Champions’ Parade on Saturday. Read more about The Samba Parade at our parent website.
