Rio de Janeiro Pride Parade
The Rio de Janeiro Pride Parade has been happening since 1995. It started small, with about 2,000 activists and their supporters. In 1997, it entered the city calendar. The most oversized edition gathered an estimated 2 million people. Grupo Arco-Iris organizes the parade.
The location along Copacabana Beach makes it one of the most scenic Pride events in the world. The gathering spot is at Posto 6, near Forte de Copacabana. It ends at the corner of Avenida Princesa Isabel.
Attractions include sponsored floats playing dance music and a guest performer to sing the national anthem. The honor used to be reserved for iconic Jane di Castro, one of the founders, until she crossed the rainbow bridge.
Rio Pride is a very colorful event, and patrons include activists, members of all letters in the LGBTQIA+ community, their families, and even children. It originally happened in June, around the celebration of Christopher Street Day. The latest editions were in November, though. The dates for the new edition have yet to be disclosed.
